Lofi beat video: a calm visualizer with no flashing at all

This tool ships loud. Quarter beat cuts, a 15 Hz flicker, a color slam on every kick. None of that belongs anywhere near a beat people are supposed to study to. Every one of those settings has an off switch, and the calm version is maybe six changes deep.

A lofi beat video has the opposite job to an edit. An edit wants your attention for thirty seconds. A lofi video sits in the corner of a screen for an hour while somebody writes an essay, and the moment it pulls the eye off the essay it has failed. The goal is not a quieter edit. It is motion with no cuts in it.

Kill the flicker first

The persistent flicker is the loudest thing in the app and it has nothing to do with your music. It hard alternates a light phase and a dark phase off a clock, anywhere from 2 to 30 times a second, at whatever opacity you set. It arrives at 15 Hz and 40 percent.

Drag flicker opacity to 0. That one slider is most of the job, and the speed setting stops mattering because at zero opacity it never draws. While you are there, check the bass drop detector is still on 0. A drop scrambles the text and shakes the frame, and on a beat with a sustained bassline it can engage and sit there.

Pick an effect that moves instead of one that slams

The flash effect menu ships on Random mix, which means each hit can land on any of them, strobe included. Strobe is the violent one by design: it floods the frame with the palette color and punches black gaps through it while the flash decays. Invert, glitch slices and RGB split are all built to jar. Shake throws the frame around by up to 70 pixels.

Zoom punch is the one that survives. It scales the picture up on the hit and eases back down as the flash decays, so a kick reads as the frame breathing rather than the light changing. Then push flash intensity and duration up from its 180 ms default toward the 500 ms ceiling. Intensity falls off in a straight line across that window, so a longer duration spreads one hit over half a second instead of a fifth of one, and a slow enough decay stops being a flash at all.

Two more dials sit behind that. Beat sensitivity runs 1.05 to 2.00 and ships at 1.35; take it toward 2.00 and only the firmest hits trigger anything. Or leave beat detection behind: switch trigger mode to fixed interval and flash every 1200 to 1500 ms, which ignores the drums and gives a slow pulse on a clock.

Slow the picture down, then check what tempo it found

Content change rate ships on every 1/4 beat, which the menu honestly labels frantic. Every 4 beats is the other end of it. At 80 BPM a beat is 0.75 seconds, so four of them is a full three seconds of the same thing on screen, which is about right for something meant to be ignorable.

Read the tempo the app prints next to your filename before you trust that, because lofi sits exactly where the detector second guesses itself. The offline scan runs 60 to 180 BPM, and when the winner comes in under 95 and the double time result also scores well, it doubles the number on purpose. That rule is right almost everywhere else, since most music reading as 74 really is 148. Lofi is the genre it was not written for.

So if the app prints 152 for a beat you know is 76, everything riding the BPM grid is running at half the length you expect, and every 4 beats is really two beats, about a second and a half. You can take that, or switch the change rate menu to every N flashes, which counts flashes instead of following the grid, and set it to 4 or 8.

One image, no text, no shapes

There is no fallback text in this app. An empty text box means no words, full stop, and images only or shapes only or a plain black frame all render fine. For lofi that is the whole look: upload one still, put image flash chance at 100, shape chance at 0, and the frame holds that picture for the length of the track.

Leave every image on the Any role. Kick, snare and hi-hat assignments exist to flash a picture on a drum hit, which is the exact behavior you are trying to get rid of. Use fill frame for a wide photo and fit whole image for cover art you do not want cropped.

Give it the tape look

Three settings do the atmosphere. The palette ships on Hyper, which is red, cyan, yellow and magenta, and that color is what tints the frame on every hit; Ice or the grayscale option lands much softer. Artifacts put a constant texture over the video, and film grain is the one that reads as tape. Scanlines work too. VHS adds tracking glitches that break the mood you just built.

The vocal visualizer is the piece that saves a still image from looking dead. Set it to waveform ribbon or vocal glow and it follows the 260 Hz to 3.4 kHz band continuously, so there is always small motion between hits instead of a frozen picture. How long a video you can actually make

Rendering happens in real time. The track plays, the canvas records, and a three minute beat takes three minutes. The tab has to stay focused the whole way, because a hidden tab stops drawing frames while the audio keeps going, and you end up with a frozen picture over a full song.

Video is written at 16 Mbps, about 2 MB a second, so budget roughly 120 MB a minute. One beat is nothing. A one hour study video is around 7 GB and an hour of babysitting a browser tab, so render a single track and let whatever plays it repeat the file. The output is WebM, not MP4, and one command converts it:

When the flashing is the actual problem

Plenty of people cannot watch the default configuration at all, and that is worth being precise about rather than vague. WCAG success criterion 2.3.1 puts the line at content that flashes more than three times in any one second. With flicker opacity at 0 and beat triggered flashes on an 80 BPM beat, a flash on every single beat is 1.3 a second, and raising beat sensitivity cuts it well below that. A long flash duration also means what is left is a fade rather than a pair of opposing luminance jumps.

Flicker opacity 0. Zoom punch. Flash duration near 500 ms. Beat sensitivity high, or fixed interval around 1400 ms. Change rate every 4 beats. One image at 100, shapes at 0, text box empty. Film grain on, waveform ribbon on, drop detector off. About a minute of sliders.
